Why I Travel
Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends. – Maya Angelou
Travel is the perfect vehicle for observation and questioning. Getting a broader picture of the different ways people live and believe across the globe gives me a fresh perspective on my own life.
Connection is easier now and even more important. The world continues to shrink with the help of technology, and popular culture blurs seamlessly across borders. Without connection, there can be no understanding or common ground. Travel is the single best way to understand others and, I believe, the best personal political act.
